Travel and Visa Information

Visa Information

If you are an international delegate, you will likely need either an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) or a business visitor stream visa to come to Australia to attend the conference, depending on the country of your passport. In both cases a fee is involved, and the ETA or visa has to be obtained prior to arrival in Australia. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the necessary documents and permissions to enter Australia.

For the most up-to-date regulations and other official information, please visit the website of the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs. A tool is available (currently in beta) that will help you determine the type of via you require: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-finder/visit. (Select “attending a conference or expo” as the main purpose of your visit.)

We strongly urge you to begin your visa application process as early as possible, as it may take a longer duration to complete in some instances.

For those requiring official letters to support their visa application, these can be obtained after registrationand payment has been completed. We will refund registration fees if your visa application is rejected. (You will need to provide us with a copy of the rejection letter.)

Getting to Wollongong

If flying, Wollongong can be accessed from Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport catering for international flights and domestic flights across Australia . The airport is about a 55min drive from the conference venue. Flights from Brisbane and Melbourne are available to Albion Park Airport a 25min drive.

If you are flying in to Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport then the recommended mode of transport is through private shuttle. Leisure Coast Limousine Service (a TALE 2018 sponsor) provides point to point pickup and drop off to the airports. It is a cost effective, convenient and stress free mode of travel.

A train service is also available from the two airports. A train station is directly accessible from both the international and domestic Sydney terminals. More information and timetables will be provided closer to the conference date.

When planning your arrival and departure times, you may like to consult the Conference Schedule At-a-Glance. It is recommended that you plan to arrive in Wollongong by the late morning of 4 December 2018 if you are presenting or wish to attend a pre-conference workshop, and no later than mid-afternoon otherwise, as the conference opening ceremony is slated to take place in the late afternoon (exact time TBA).
