Nature

Wollongong and the surrounding areas are filled with great natural areas to explore. If you like to get up and close to nature there are many great options. The following are some recommendations.

For places to visit close to the city center investigate these twenty great Wollongong bush-walks

Mount Keira Lookout

A quick 20-minute drive from Wollongong, this is a great spot to walk through the bush and see what Wollongong has to offer. Free parking and entry.

Minnamurra Rainforest Centre

Explore a beautiful rainforest that follows the Minnamurra river to a waterfall. A tourist friendly track is provided to guide you through the forest. The main loop is an easy grade. You can also follow a path to the waterfall, but this walk is uphill and exhausting and if fit highly recommended. The rainforest has free entry, but you do pay for parking (approx $10 for a car). It is a 35-minute drive, and close to Kiama.

Carrington Falls

A 50-minute drive from Wollongong, this spot provides breathtaking views and great walking tracks. This location is only an extra 15-minute drive from Minnamurra Falls. Parking fees apply.

Fitzroy Falls

If you continue your journey from Minnamurra Falls, to Carrington Falls, the next stop is Fitzroy Falls. This is a further 20-minute drive from Carrington Falls and only a 70-minute drive back to Wollongong. Many tracks designed for tourists allow you to explore the beautiful mountain ranges. Parking fees apply.
